I Should Not Be Separating My Faith

I’ve been a committed Christian for 13ish years.

But up till now, I’ve kept my faith separate from my career. They’ve lived in two different spaces.

I’d go to work, do whatever I needed to do at work. Then outside of work I’d practice my faith.

This separation has always felt artificial and awkward. If I’m called to lay down my life tforo Christ, shouldn’t it also impact the 40 hours a week I’m at work?

I need to be on mission in more areas of my life, including work.

Work as Mission

One of the goals I’ve made for myself is to lead and encourage Christian men in my workplace. I know from experience work can be a lonely place and feel secular.

Could I help people catch a bigger vision for work?

I probably work quite a number of men that follow Christ. (I currently know of 3 others). Can I not connect them and meet up regularly?

I need some older guys to speak truth into my life, to help me with parenting and marriage.

Do you think any of my coworkers are church elders? Would I not want to spend time around these types of people?

I want to have eyes to see the opportunities around me at work.

Entrepreneurship as Mission

Looking forward, I want to own my own business to give my life flexibility.

If I’m the business owner, I don’t have to worry about what my boss or HR would say about the conversations I’m having.

I could be very open that this business serves my family and my faith. Have it on my website, it shows up in my values, etc.

I also have freedom in my schedule. I could take an hour or two out of my day to study the bible with someone.

I could drive to people to get lunch with them if they only have an hour lunch break.

I could treat my employees humanely and empower them versus just to extract maximum profit out of the business.

Entrepreneurship could be a way to advance the Kingdom. I pray I have can do that if the Lords leads me in that direction.
